June 19th, 2025

If you’re looking for somewhere to eat in Swanage, you’ll be spoilt for choice when deciding where to go! For a relatively small town, Swanage is home to a fantastic selection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and takeaways, so you’re bound to find something that takes your fancy.

Here we list just some of the best places to eat in Swanage. Let us know if we’ve missed any off the list!

Burnt Toast

Burnt Toast is one of our favourite cafes in Swanage. In the small but incredibly welcoming cafe you can enjoy a delicious menu of breakfast and brunch dishes, all cooked to absolute perfection! Whether you’re in the mood for a full English, a sharing platter of topped hashbrowns, a breakfast burger or quesadilla, the team will ensure you’re well fed before you leave.

Many of the menu items can be made vegetarian or vegan. They also sell a host of sweet treats if you’re not in the mood for something savoury. We’re in love with their warm banana bread!

Fish Plaice

No trip to Swanage is complete without a portion of fish and chips looking out to sea. Fish Plaice is rated number one on TripAdvisor and consistently receives glowing reviews!

The current owners have owned the business for more than 20 years and pride themselves on creating delicious fish and chips in a traditional way. They fillet all of their fish on site, cut their own potatoes and make their fishcakes fresh in house.

We highly recommend visiting on a Thursday to take advantage of the ‘Different Fish Thursday’ promotion. Every week the team bring in locally caught fish specials, giving you the chance to try something new.

The Village Inn Bar & Restaurant

We can’t compile a list of places to eat in Swanage without giving our very own bar and restaurant a mention. The Village Inn is situated at the entrance to Ulwell Holiday Park and open for holiday park guests and the wider community to enjoy.

We serve a tasty selection of dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner using local ingredients wherever possible. The restaurant is modern and welcoming with regular events, modern interior and dog friendly area at the bar.

One of the things that really sets us apart is our fantastic beer garden with outdoor bar and TV screen. It’s the perfect place to while away a sunny afternoon whilst watching the latest sporting fixtures. We event have a Corfe Castle themed play area for younger members of the family to burn of some steam!

The Narrows

The Narrows is relatively new to Swanage, but what an impression its made already. Whether you’re in the mood for a light bite, a hearty meal of a fruity cocktail, this kitchen and bar has it all. The menu changes regularly to make use of seasonal ingredients. Their daily specials board features butchers cuts and fresh, locally supplied fish.

If you’re looking for something a bit different, book onto one of the tasting menu nights. This fantastic culinary experience celebrates the fantastic produce on our doorstep with a mouth-watering 6 course dinner.

Coastal Crust Pizza

You can’t go wrong with a good pizza and Coastal Crust deliver just that from their excellent pizzeria on the Prospect Business Park. They use quality ingredients and state of the art pizza ovens to achieve perfectly thin bases and light fluffy crusts every time.

Choose one of their menu items or ‘build’ your own from their selection of tasty toppings.

You can dine in the stylish restaurant or pre-order your pizza for takeaway. This is a great option at the end of a busy day exploring Dorset and all the local area has to offer.

A lovely quiet site, nice warm amenities with good sized shower cubicles, shop not open yet as it’s too early but the local pub is ideal. Staff were very friendly and helpful. If you’re reasonably fit you can walk into Swanage but the bus service is great so why would you want to. Overall a very nice break, we will be back.
