The past year has been a difficult for most people. We know most of you have spent more time inside than ever before and have missed socialising with family and friends. Now is the perfect time to look ahead to happier times and start planning a family getaway for spring or summer. Here are just some of the reasons we think a camping or caravan holiday in Dorset should be on your to do list in 2021.
1. Fresh sea air
If you’re working from home and in need of fresh air, a holiday by the coast is just the ticket! There’s something truly special about watching the waves whilst breathing in the salty sea air. A walk along the South West Coast path will help clear your head and destress from the hassles of daily life. You’ll leave your camping holiday feeling recharged and ready to take on whatever challenges are thrown at you in 2021.
There are plenty of beaches nearby to choose from. Plus you’ll have the freedom to discover them at your own pace. The Jurassic Coast is a World Heritage Site and iconic natural landmarks such as Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove and Kimmeridge Bay are not to be missed.
2. Beautiful weather
Many people go in search of warmer climates during their annual family holiday. But why travel to far flung destinations, when Swanage enjoys some of the warmest whether in the UK! According to the Met Office, coastal regions in the South West benefit from more than 1,800 hours of sunshine each year. Thanks to our close proximity to the beach, it’s not uncommon to enjoy a heat wave in the summer. We often have mild temperatures throughout the spring and autumn months too. Nothing beats camping in Dorset during the hot and sunny weather. If things do take a turn for the worse, there’s no need to worry – there are plenty of wet weather activities nearby.
3. Friendly locals
We like to think we’re a friendly bunch and you’re guaranteed a warm welcome on arrival to our park. Swanage residents are very hospitable and will always help you out. Don’t worry if you’re in need of directions or looking for recommendations of where to grab a bite to eat. We love where we live and like to share the beauty of our county with holidaymakers from far and wide. In this vein, we kindly ask you to respect our local community and adhere to relevant Covid guidelines during your stay at our Dorset holiday park.
4. Locally sourced food and drink
If you like eating out, you’ll be spoilt for choice when camping at Ulwell Holiday Park. In addition to our wonderful bar and restaurant, The Village Inn, there’s a wide selection of eateries within close proximity to the site. Dorset is home to some fantastic producers, serving delicious dishes to be sampled during your stay. Whether you’re hoping to enjoy fresh seafood caught by local fisherman or organic meat and cheese, you’ll bound to find a new favourite that you’ll begin stocking up to take home!
Even if you prefer to self-cater you won’t miss out on the Dorset delights. Our on-site shop sells a selection of local produce and there is a farm shop, butchers and fish mongers in the town.
5. Blue flag beach
Swanage is a Blue Flag Beach and considered one of the best in the country. The water is of outstanding quality and there are plenty of facilities available for beachgoers to use. Whether you plan on relaxing on the sand with a good book or aim to try your hand at one of the water sports on offer, we’re sure you’ll have a fantastic day and will make plenty of happy memories with your loved ones. After a difficult year, we think a day at the beach is exactly what everyone needs!
6. Spectacular countryside
Our holiday park in Swanage is the perfect base from which to explore the Dorset countryside. Our enviable location affords guests wonderful views over the Purbeck hills and surrounding farmland. If you venture further afield there are spectacular landscapes waiting to be explored. From the park there’s easy access to a number of scenic walks, which include iconic landmarks such as Old Harrys Rock and Corfe Castle.
7. Socially distanced accommodation
We understand how important it is to look after your well-being during these troubling times. Rest assured that the health and safety of our visitors and staff is the upmost priority at Ulwell Holiday Park. We’re constantly adapting to ensure we’re meeting industry standards. We are also proud recipients of the ‘We’re Good to Go’ consumer mark. One of the best things about a camping, caravan or motorhome holiday is that it’s easy to social distance. Our pitches are well spaced so it’s possible to keep to your family group. If you’re bringing your own caravan or motorhome you can use your own facilities. However please note our amenities block is maintained to the highest standards for your comfort and convenience.
8. No foreign travel hassles
Even if foreign travel is an option soon, we suspect there will still be some restrictions in place. Worried about quarantine being imposed mid stay or self-isolating on your return to the UK? A holiday closer to home will give you some peace of mind. Many people have discovered the beauty on their doorstep during lockdown and we expect the staycation trend to continue into 2021. At the very least, if you choose to holiday in Dorset, you’ll escape the hassle of queuing up in the airport and waiting at the luggage carousel!
9. You can bring your dog
Holidays are for spending quality time together and that includes your four-legged friends! We’re proud to be a dog friendly campsite and welcome dogs of all shapes and sizes to our holiday park in Swanage. All of our camping and touring pitches allow up to two dogs and a selection of our caravan holiday homes are dog friendly too! Enjoy a well-earned break with your canine companion exploring the Dorset countryside. Don’t forget we have some of the best dog friendly beaches, cafes and restaurants in the UK.
10. Outdoor attractions
Whilst we’re all unsure what ‘normal’ will look like next year, we’re certain visitors will still be prioritising outdoor attractions during their stay. We’re fortunate to have an abundance of things to do on our doorstep. Our local activity providers have worked incredibly hard to adapt their offering to work within Covid guidelines.
Whilst camping or caravanning at Ulwell Holiday Park you could enjoy a scenic boat trip, kayaking session or even give fishing a go. If you’d prefer something a little less adventurous, there are beautiful gardens, historic attractions and family farm parks to explore.
